About On Yer Bike and Brain Tumour Research

On Yer Bike is a nationwide cycling event for people using spinning bikes, exercise bikes or road bikes to set themselves a challenge in order to raise sponsorship money which will go to the Brain Tumour Research charity.

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What's more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

Less than 20% of brain tumour patients survive beyond five years of their diagnosis. We are determined to change this.

The Brain Tumour Research charity exists to build the UK's research capacity by supporting our network of experts in sustainable research at dedicated Centres of Excellence, whilst influencing the Government and larger cancer charities to invest more nationally.

We do not receive Government funding and rely entirely on donations and fundraising from members of the public, charitable trusts and foundations, and corporate entities.

All funds raised during On Yer Bike 2019 will go to the charity, minus a fee of 4.25% per donation which is paid to everydayhero for running the payment mechanism, unless the donor chooses to pay these fees.

On Yer Bike - Inspired by Paul Halfpenny

The original On Yer Bike event was organised by two brilliant and passionate supporters, Paul and Jen Halfpenny from Glossop in Derbyshire. Paul was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2010 and sadly passed away in June 2014, age 37, after what was described as 'a heroic four-and-a-half-year battle' against the devastating disease.

Paul's wife Jen held a special On Yer Bike 2015 event in memory of Paul and, combined with the previous two years' events, raised tens of thousands of pounds to support Brain Tumour Research, helping to improve outcomes for others affected by a brain tumour.
